Zenith Bank Plc has received approval from the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) to extend the deadline for filing its audited half-year financial statements for the period ended June 30, 2026.
The bank disclosed the development in a notice to investors dated August 18, 2026, signed by its Company Secretary, Michael Osilama Otu.
Zenith Bank was originally expected to submit its audited financial statements by August 29, 2026. However, the lender applied for additional time, and the NGX approved a six-week extension.
With the extension, Zenith Bank now has until October 9, 2026, to publish its audited financial results for the first half of the year.
The bank explained that its Board of Directors had already approved the financial statements on July 29. However, the accounts are still undergoing the final regulatory approval required before they can be released to the investing public.
Zenith Bank said the delay was caused by the regulatory clearance process and assured investors that it expects to complete the process and publish the audited results within the new deadline.
The development highlights the additional regulatory steps involved in approving the financial statements of major Nigerian banks before they are made available to shareholders and the wider market.
For investors, audited financial statements are important because they provide detailed information about a bank’s earnings, assets, liabilities, capital position and overall financial health.
Zenith Bank’s upcoming results will therefore attract attention from shareholders and market participants who will be looking to assess the lender’s performance during the first six months of 2026.
The extension also comes at a time when some other major financial institutions are experiencing delays in completing their half-year audited filings.
Banks typically have to coordinate with auditors and regulators before releasing their audited accounts. This process can take longer when additional reviews or regulatory clearances are required.
Another major financial institution, Access Holdings Plc, has also obtained an extension from the NGX for its H1 2026 audited results. Its revised deadline has been set for September 30, 2026, subject to the necessary regulatory approval.
Zenith Bank’s extension does not mean the bank has withdrawn or postponed its financial reporting obligations. Instead, the additional period gives the lender more time to complete the regulatory process before formally releasing the audited accounts.
The bank’s management is expected to use the extension to finalise the outstanding approval process and ensure that the results meet the requirements of regulators and the Nigerian capital market.
The new October deadline now gives investors a clearer timeline for when Zenith Bank’s audited first-half results are expected.
Market watchers will be particularly interested in the figures when they are released, as the results could provide fresh insight into the bank’s earnings, balance sheet strength and performance during the first half of 2026.
For now, Zenith Bank has assured the market that it remains committed to completing the process and publishing its audited financial statements before the extended deadline.
