President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria’s foreign missions and multilateral posts across the world, naming Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in a move aimed at restoring full diplomatic representation abroad.
The list comprises 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025. Among the high-profile postings are former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany and former presidential aide Reno Omokri to Mexico City.
Also drawing attention is the posting of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Philippines. Other notable non-career appointments include Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, Mahmood Yakubu to Qatar, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to Greece.
In the career diplomatic category, Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka was posted to Côte d’Ivoire, Besto Maimuna Ibrahim to Niger, Monica Okwuchukwu Enebichi to São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria. Others were assigned to Egypt, Jamaica, Zambia, Mali, Equatorial Guinea, Italy, India, Ghana, Ethiopia, Morocco, Kenya, Belgium, Switzerland, Sudan, and Thailand.
The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke. It added that requests for agrément have also been sent to the remaining host countries in line with diplomatic procedure. Tinubu also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment.
