Tantalizers Plc, a well-known Nigerian quick-service restaurant chain, is making a major push into seafood export. The company has signed a five-year, multi-million-dollar offtake agreement with U.S.-based Harvester Fisheries LLC. Under the deal, Tantalizers Fisheries Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, will deliver minimum agreed volumes of wild-caught tiger prawns and pure shrimps annually to its American partner.
Tantalizers disclosed the agreement through a filing to the Nigerian Exchange, signed by its Company Secretary, Olamide Babawale-Mo. In a statement, Group Managing Director Robert Speijer said, “Our partnership with Harvester Fisheries strengthens our global supply chain and positions Nigeria as a credible source of high-quality seafood for the North American market.”
Tantalizers Fisheries operates from a designated Free Trade Zone in Nigeria, specializing in deep-sea trawling, processing, and exporting seafood products. The company adheres to international food safety standards, ensuring traceability, quality control, and sustainability in its operations.
This move is part of a broader strategic vision. Earlier in the year, Tantalizers acquired 10 modern fishing trawlers via a partnership with U.S. marine operators, signalling its serious commitment to the blue economy. The trawlers, equipped with advanced technology for deep-sea fishing, reflect the company’s ambition to diversify beyond its restaurant business.
Tantalizers is laying the groundwork for a world-class seafood processing and cold-chain facility in Nigeria. This facility should help it meet global demand and strengthen Nigeria’s role in the international seafood value chain.
For Tantalizers, this deal underscores a pivotal transformation. The company is evolving from its fast-food roots into a multi-faceted “food-tainment” group, expanding into fisheries, marine export, and value-added seafood processing.
This export deal helps boost Nigeria’s non-oil revenue, aligning with national efforts to diversify away from petroleum. Seafood exports like shrimps and prawns also support the blue economy, potentially strengthening foreign exchange inflows, job creation in coastal regions, and wider participation in high-value global supply chains.
