Nigeria Strengthens Transparency with Full Payment Digitisation

The Federal Government has fully digitised payment processes across all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s public financial management reforms.

According to the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, all government payments are now processed electronically, eliminating manual transactions that historically enabled leakages, delays, and weak accountability.

Officials say the reform enhances transparency, allowing better tracking of public funds from approval to disbursement. Citizens and oversight institutions can now more easily monitor government spending and project execution.

The payment digitisation complements existing reforms such as the Treasury Single Account and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, which have collectively saved billions of naira by eliminating ghost workers and duplicate payments.

Authorities say the reforms are essential for restoring trust in public institutions, improving service delivery, and strengthening fiscal discipline.
