Savannah Energy Plc has announced the appointment of Kehinde Ogunwumiju as a Non-Executive Director, with immediate effect.

The company confirmed that Ogunwumiju, 43, holds no shares in Savannah Energy. His appointment is expected to strengthen the board as the energy company continues to advance its growth strategy across Africa.

Commenting on the development, Savannah’s Non-Executive Chair, Joseph Pagop Noupoué, said the board was pleased to welcome Ogunwumiju, describing him as a highly regarded legal professional with extensive experience supporting fast-growing organisations.

Noupoué noted that Ogunwumiju’s legal expertise and international exposure would be valuable as Savannah expands its operations and navigates increasingly complex regulatory and commercial environments across the continent.

In his reaction, Ogunwumiju said he was delighted to join Savannah at a pivotal stage in the company’s development and looked forward to contributing to its strategic objectives. He added that he was eager to work with fellow board members and the executive management team to support the company’s long-term ambitions.

Ogunwumiju is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and serves as Managing Partner at Afe Babalola & Co., one of Africa’s leading law firms. His legal career spans major commercial, energy and investment disputes, both within Nigeria and internationally.

He has represented the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in over 100 legal disputes and acted for the Federal Republic of Nigeria in several high-profile international arbitration cases, including defending the country against a nearly $5 billion claim at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, D.C.

Beyond his legal practice, Ogunwumiju has held board positions in several companies over the past five years, spanning sectors such as energy, investments and corporate services.

Savannah Energy said the appointment aligns with its commitment to strengthening governance and deepening board expertise as it pursues growth opportunities in African energy markets.
