Dangote Fertilizer Limited has announced a strategic partnership with Thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology to license advanced granulation technology for four new urea production units in Lekki, Lagos. The move is expected to more than triple the company’s daily urea output and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a leading fertilizer producer.
Each new unit will have a capacity of 4,235 metric tons per day, bringing the combined daily capacity to 16,940 metric tons. Currently, Dangote Fertilizer operates plants producing 3,850 metric tons daily. The expansion will push annual production from around 2.65 million tons to over 8 million tons, a significant boost that could reduce local fertilizer shortages and stabilise prices for farmers across Nigeria.
Advanced Technology to Reduce Environmental Impact
The new plants will incorporate energy-efficient systems to control dust and ammonia emissions and integrate ammonium sulfate byproducts into urea granules. These innovations are designed to improve production efficiency while reducing environmental impact, reflecting global best practices in sustainable industrial operations.

By increasing domestic urea production, Dangote Fertilizer aims to lower costs for local farmers, improve crop yields, and reduce dependence on imported fertilizers.
