MultiChoice Nigeria has ushered in a significant leadership change with the appointment of Kemi Omotosho as its new Chief Executive Officer, a role she officially assumed in January 2026. This transition signals a fresh phase for the company, which remains a key player in Nigeria’s entertainment and digital media sector.
The change at the top comes as John Ugbe, the long-serving CEO, steps down after nearly 15 years leading the company. Under his tenure, Ugbe guided MultiChoice Nigeria through periods of rapid industry transformation, market evolutions, and customer preferences shifts. His leadership helped grow the company’s footprint across Nigeria, anchored by steady operational strategies and expansion of the brand’s offerings in the pay-TV space.
Omotosho now takes the reins at a time when the media landscape is increasingly competitive and evolving swiftly due to digital disruption. With more than 20 years of experience in media, telecommunications, and digital businesses across Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, she brings deep industry know-how and operational insight to her new role.
Before her appointment as CEO, Omotosho held several influential positions within the MultiChoice Group. She once served as Executive Head of Customer Value Management in Nigeria and later expanded her scope to become Group Executive Head of Customer Value Management for the rest of Africa, where she provided leadership and strategic guidance across more than 50 markets. Most recently, she was Regional Director for Southern Africa, overseeing operations in a seven-country portfolio with full profit-and-loss responsibility. This experience has helped shape her reputation as a strategic leader capable of navigating complex and diverse market landscapes.
In her new role, Omotosho will be responsible for charting the overall direction of MultiChoice Nigeria, enhancing daily operations, and maintaining strong relationships with regulators, partners, and stakeholders. A central part of her vision includes championing local content creation and supporting growth in Nigeria’s creative economy, a sector that contributes to employment, cultural expression, and economic activity.
“It is a privilege to be entrusted with the leadership of MultiChoice Nigeria at this important moment,” Omotosho said. She added,
“Nigeria remains one of the Group’s most strategic markets. I look forward to working with our teams and partners to deepen our relationship with consumers, champion local storytelling and the creative economy, and build a future-ready organization that delivers sustainable value.”
Her appointment reflects MultiChoice’s intent to position itself not just as a content provider but as a long-term contributor to Nigeria’s entertainment ecosystem and broader economic landscape. The emphasis on homegrown content and storytelling aligns with rising demand for locally relevant media and increased digital consumption by Nigerian audiences.
Omotosho’s academic foundations include an Executive MBA from Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Nigerian Institute of Management, and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin. These credentials, paired with her wide managerial experience, equip her to steer a company facing both opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing media environment.
From an economic perspective, the Nigerian market presents both promise and headwinds. Broad media consumption trends and population growth suggest strong opportunities for content monetization. However, recent reports indicate that MultiChoice’s revenue has faced pressure due to declining subscriptions and macroeconomic conditions, including inflation and foreign exchange volatility that have impacted consumer spending power and the company’s operational performance in the region. This economic backdrop makes Omotosho’s leadership particularly crucial as the company seeks sustainable growth amid broader economic shifts.
Looking ahead, industry watchers will be observing how Omotosho leverages her experience and strategic insight to help MultiChoice Nigeria adapt to market changes, grow its subscriber base, and deepen its economic impact through content creation and digital innovation.
