Elsewedy Electric, the Egyptian multinational led by the billionaire El-Sewedy family, has joined forces with Qatar’s Raneen Energy to enhance the Gulf nation’s power systems and promote local production. The partnership was formally launched during a technical seminar in Doha, which brought together engineers, regulators, and industry executives to review standards for dry and oil-immersed transformers, busway systems, and other critical infrastructure.

The collaboration will ensure that all equipment supplied meets Kahramaa’s regulatory requirements while introducing more reliable and efficient power solutions to support Qatar’s long-term energy needs. The seminar also served as a platform for open dialogue between engineers and regulators, highlighting practical challenges and sharing best practices for implementation.

As part of the agreement, Raneen Energy plans to establish an industrial complex in Qatar within five years to manufacture transformers, substation components, busway systems, and switchgear panels. This initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which prioritises local industrialisation and broader economic diversification.

Elsewedy Electric emphasised that its approach focuses on responsible manufacturing and energy-efficient materials to meet the growing demand for environmentally conscious power equipment. Under the alliance, Raneen Energy will serve as the exclusive distributor of Elsewedy Electric products in Qatar, with the partnership projected to surpass QAR 100 million ($27.5 million) in value over the coming years.

Founded in 1938, Elsewedy Electric has expanded from a small Cairo-based wire producer into a global supplier with more than 34 production facilities and operations in over 110 countries. The company reported a profit of $298.5 million and revenue of $4.22 billion in the first nine months of 2025. Recent developments include Elsewedy Industrial Development’s agreement with Arabia Developments to establish a major industrial zone in Cairo’s 6th of October City.

The strategic alliance with Raneen Energy reflects Elsewedy Electric’s commitment to regional expansion, technological innovation, and sustainable energy solutions, strengthening its influence across the Middle East and North Africa.
