Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan secured a dramatic 3–2 victory over Wikki Tourists on Sunday, while Barau FC comfortably defeated Abia Warriors 2–0 in Kano, as Match Day 30 of the Nigeria Premier Football League produced compelling action across multiple venues.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, the Oluyole Warriors extended their impressive home form with a sixth consecutive victory at their ground. Sodiq Ibrahim opened the scoring in the 16th minute following an assist from Ayobami Junior. Wikki Tourists responded through Abba Musa in the 35th minute, but Lucky Emmanuel restored the hosts’ lead just before halftime, finishing another Ayobami Junior creation.
John Taiwo equalised again for the visitors in the 53rd minute after a clinical finish from Jonathan Mairiga’s assist. However, Tijani Al-Ameen headed home from Ayobami Junior’s corner in the 88th minute to seal a hard-fought victory. The result moved Shooting Stars to fourth position with 47 points from 30 matches, level with third-placed Nasarawa United but separated by goal difference.
In Kano, Barau FC delivered a disciplined performance at the Sani Abacha Stadium, defeating Abia Warriors 2–0. Muhammad Umar scored both goals from well-taken free kicks in the 9th and 30th minutes, giving the home side a comfortable advantage. Despite Abia Warriors’ efforts to reduce the deficit in the second half, Barau’s defence remained resolute to secure the victory.
Barau FC coach Eugene Agagbe praised his players’ determination and discipline after the match. “We thank God Almighty for the victory again today. Our objective is always to win,” he said. Agagbe noted that his initial target after taking charge was to move the team away from its previous position on the table, an objective he believes has been achieved. Barau now occupies eighth position with 40 points from 30 games.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Bayelsa United defeated Warri Wolves 2–1, while Enyimba International claimed a 2–0 victory over Plateau United to boost their survival hopes. Niger Tornadoes and Kano Pillars played out a goalless draw, as did Kwara United and Enugu Rangers. Remo Stars secured a 2–1 win over Nasarawa United, while Katsina United drew 1–1 with El-Kanemi Warriors.
The results have intensified competition at both ends of the table, with Shooting Stars strengthening their push for a continental qualification spot while teams at the bottom battle to avoid relegation. The outstanding Match Day 30 fixture between Ikorodu City and Rivers United is scheduled for Monday.
