In a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s financial technology sector, Piggyvest, the country’s leading savings and investment platform, has announced that its total payouts to users surged to ₦1.3 trillion in 2025. This milestone coincides with a significant expansion of its community, with the platform’s active user base officially reaching six million individuals. The figures, released in the company’s year-end “Grownup Report,” underscore the platform’s deepening influence on the financial habits of young Nigerians and its resilience amidst a volatile economic landscape.

The 2025 payout figure represents a substantial leap from previous years, highlighting a growing culture of disciplined saving and goal-oriented financial planning among the youth. According to the report, the ₦1.3 trillion disbursed covers various tenures and products, including the platform’s core automated savings (Piggybank), fixed-term deposits (Safelock), and target-based savings. This high volume of withdrawals and matured investments suggests that Nigerians are increasingly utilizing digital tools to meet significant life milestones, such as rent payments, tuition fees, and business capital.

Odunayo Eweniyi, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Piggyvest, noted that the growth in user base to six million is a testament to the trust the platform has built over nearly a decade of operation. “Our mission has always been to give our users the tools to manage their money better,” Eweniyi stated. She emphasized that the platform’s ability to maintain seamless operations while handling such massive transaction volumes is a result of continuous investment in robust technology and security infrastructure.

The report also provided insights into the saving patterns of Nigerians. Despite the persistent inflationary pressures that characterized the 2024 and 2025 fiscal years, the data shows that users have become more aggressive with their “Safelock” features. This trend indicates a strategic move by savers to lock away funds at higher interest rates to hedge against the devaluing naira. Furthermore, the “Target Savings” feature remains a popular choice for community-led saving challenges, reflecting the communal “Ajo” or “Esusu” tradition adapted for the digital age.

Beyond individual savings, Piggyvest’s 2025 performance highlights the broader shift in Nigeria’s financial services industry. The transition from traditional banking barriers to inclusive digital platforms has allowed millions of previously underserved or tech-savvy Nigerians to participate in a structured financial ecosystem. The platform’s success is also attributed to its diversified investment offerings, which allow users to invest in low-to-medium risk opportunities in agriculture, real estate, and fixed income, right from their mobile devices.

However, the surge in payouts also serves as a mirror to the economic realities facing many Nigerians. Large-scale withdrawals often peak during specific seasons, such as “January Blues” or the start of the school year, indicating that Piggyvest has become a primary emergency fund for a vast majority of its users. The company has responded to this by introducing more educational content on financial literacy, helping users distinguish between long-term wealth creation and short-term liquidity needs.

As Piggyvest looks toward 2026, the company plans to further deepen its market penetration by enhancing its “Pocket” (formerly Abeg) integration, which facilitates social commerce and peer-to-peer payments. By evolving from a simple savings app into a comprehensive financial lifestyle platform, Piggyvest is positioning itself to remain at the forefront of Africa’s fintech revolution. The 2025 results confirm that despite economic headwinds, the appetite for digital financial management remains stronger than ever, setting a high bar for competitors in the emerging markets.
