Patrice Motsepe’s African Rainbow Capital (ARC) has announced its backing of Spinnaker Support, a US-based provider of third-party software support for Oracle, SAP, and VMware environments, as it opens its first South African office in Johannesburg.

The move reflects Motsepe’s calculated bet on the growing demand for cost-effective software solutions in corporate South Africa.

With a portfolio spanning financial services, telecommunications, insurance, and renewable energy, Motsepe’s investment in Spinnaker aligns with his strategy of challenging incumbents and expanding access in markets where they have long held the upper hand.

Spinnaker’s model offers South African companies a way to break free from expensive, vendor-locked software contracts and redirect capital toward higher-return projects.

The Johannesburg office, which opened with five employees, will serve as a hub for Spinnaker’s regional and international operations, leveraging South Africa’s large installed base of SAP and Oracle systems.

Teko Mojaki, managing director of Spinnaker South Africa, emphasized the importance of modernizing enterprise platforms on their own terms, rather than being forced by contract milestones.

This investment signals ARC’s commitment to long-term growth and its confidence in Spinnaker’s ability to deliver value to South African businesses. As Motsepe’s portfolio continues to diversify, his backing of Spinnaker underscores the potential for innovation and disruption in the country’s software support market.
