MTN Nigeria Backs Youth Innovation with “Live It 100” Campaign

MTN Nigeria has announced a fresh approach to connecting with young Nigerians, focusing on empowering them to take charge of their ideas rather than interrupting their space with traditional marketing. The company says it recognizes a major shift in how the younger generation engages with brands and is now prioritizing support for youth-driven creativity and innovation.

At the center of this strategy is the belief that young people should have the freedom to create, grow, and earn from their ideas on their own terms. Instead of pushing messages at them, MTN aims to provide platforms that encourage self-expression while opening doors to real economic opportunities.

This vision was highlighted during the “Live It 100” campaign, a youth-focused initiative designed to celebrate and support young talent. The event brought together creatives, entrepreneurs, and innovators, showcasing what can happen when young people are given the tools and space to lead.

Speaking at the event, MTN Nigeria’s CEO, Karl Toriola, described the energy of the participants as inspiring and proof of the determination of Nigerian youth. He explained that the company’s goal is to act as a supporter of this movement, not a disruptor. According to him, MTN wants to be seen as a partner that helps ideas grow, rather than a brand that imposes itself on young people.

He emphasized that the “Live It 100” campaign is about creating a platform where young voices are heard and respected. By allowing participants to take the lead, MTN hopes to build stronger, more meaningful connections with this generation.

The company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, also noted that the campaign revealed the power of listening to young people. She pointed out that traditional ways of engaging consumers are no longer as effective, especially with a generation that values authenticity and independence.

According to her, the success of the event shows that when businesses step back and allow young people to take control, innovation thrives. She added that MTN is not just celebrating youth culture but actively investing in their potential to drive economic growth.

A key part of this initiative is “The Gathering,” a youth-led community that exists mainly online across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X. It serves as a space where young Nigerians can connect, collaborate, and showcase their talents. Built by young people for young people, the platform reflects their interests, creativity, and digital lifestyle.

The live event, which ran for 100 hours from April 22 to 26, 2026, featured a wide range of activities. These included business pitch sessions, gaming, fashion shows, movie screenings, networking opportunities, and social events. Each activity was designed and led by members of the community, reinforcing a sense of ownership and creativity.

MTN has pledged to continue expanding this platform, ensuring that it remains a space where young Nigerians can express themselves and turn their ideas into real opportunities. The company believes that by supporting youth-led innovation, it is not only building stronger connections but also contributing to the future of Nigeria’s economy.
