The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent assertions by media mogul Dele Momodu regarding the 2027 presidential election as “baseless speculation.” In a statement released on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the State Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, countered Momodu’s suggestion that President Bola Tinubu would face defeat if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar teamed up with either Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi.

The structural and political consequence of this rebuttal highlights the deepening divide between the ruling party and opposition commentators as the 2027 electoral cycle begins to take shape. Oladejo characterized Momodu’s projections as “premature and unsupported by reality,” arguing that the current political realignment actually favors a “victory” for the President. The APC spokesperson contended that those being positioned as potential challengers are currently mired in internal crises of confidence and local resistance within their own political bases, rendering any talk of an electoral upset “politically unrealistic.”

Analytically, the APC is doubling down on the “Renewed Hope Agenda” as its primary defense against opposition critiques. The party insists that the administration remains focused on bold economic reforms, national security, and sustainable growth. By dismissing Momodu’s claims as “daydreams,” the Lagos APC is attempting to frame the opposition as disorganized and lacking a clear alternative direction. Oladejo noted that Nigerians are “discerning enough” to recognize responsible governance and will continue to support the administration as it consolidates the gains of its ongoing structural changes.

Furthermore, the statement urged political actors to pivot from “speculative permutations” toward constructive contributions to national development. The APC’s dismissal of “media conjecture” serves as a strategic move to de-legitimize the idea of a unified opposition coalition before it can gain significant traction. According to Oladejo, the opposition camp’s persistent lack of cohesion makes it unlikely to earn the electorate’s attention, let alone mount a successful challenge to the presidency.

The long-term outlook for the 2027 race suggests that the APC will continue to leverage its incumbency and the perceived “steady progress” of the economy to maintain its dominant position. As the countdown to the next national elections continues, the battle for the narrative between the ruling party’s reformist claims and the opposition’s coalition-building efforts is expected to intensify. For the Lagos APC, the focus remains on ensuring that President Tinubu’s administration is seen as the only stable path forward for the country.
