The Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Abuja has promised residents faster and more effective emergency responses following the promotion of 733 officers in the Federal Capital Territory Command. The service said the recent advancement of personnel would strengthen its capacity to protect lives and property across the city.
At a ceremony held at the command headquarters in Kubwa, Controller of the FFS, FCT Command, Suleiman M. Anas, said the number of officers promoted was the highest in the Command’s history. The promotions followed the 2025 senior promotion examination conducted by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Board.
Among those decorated were senior officers including Aisha Aliu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Barnabas Ayam, and Naimat Omeiza Ajayi. Mr Anas said the elevation of staff across various ranks had significantly boosted morale among firefighters, adding that motivated officers were more likely to deliver higher standards of service.
He explained that the promotions spanned a wide range of ranks, with officers moving up from Deputy Superintendent to Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent to Deputy Superintendent, and other key positions. According to him, timely promotions were essential for effective service delivery and operational readiness.
Mr Anas said that although the FFS’s response to emergencies in the Federal Capital Territory had been commendable in the past, the recent promotions would make it even swifter. He encouraged residents to be vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and contact the fire service immediately if they witnessed an emergency, noting that quick alerts helped firefighters respond faster.
He also appealed for cooperation from the public, urging people to be more safety conscious and report incidents without delay. According to Mr Anas, the earlier the fire service was alerted to a situation, the more effective its response could be.
Leaders from defence, security, intelligence and emergency response agencies attended the event, showing support for the fire service’s mission in the capital. The promotions reflect a broader effort to improve emergency services and build confidence among personnel.
The FFS’s commitment comes as part of continuous reforms within emergency services across Nigeria, aimed at saving lives, preventing loss of property and improving public trust in safety institutions.
