Andela Inc., the fast-growing tech talent platform known for connecting engineers with top companies worldwide, has officially acquired Woven, a specialist technical assessment firm that uses real-world scenarios and AI tools to evaluate engineering skills. The move is designed to enhance Andela’s ability to judge the readiness of engineers for modern, AI-driven roles, a critical capability as demand for such talent explodes across industries.

By bringing Woven’s assessment technology into its ecosystem, Andela aims to build more effective, precise evaluations of engineers’ abilities and better match them with the exact skills employers need. The acquisition was announced on Thursday and is expected to speed up Andela’s product roadmap by incorporating Woven’s content, evaluation tools, and domain know-how into its platform.

At its core, the deal reflects a larger shift in how companies hire technical talent. Traditional coding tests and resumes are increasingly seen as insufficient for judging real-world engineering ability, particularly as artificial intelligence becomes embedded in everyday software and systems. Employers no longer just want developers who “know code”, they want engineers who can build, integrate, scale, and manage AI systems.

To meet this demand, Andela says businesses now require three main types of AI-native engineers, those who can translate business needs into working AI components, those who can stitch models and tools into complex autonomous workflows, and those who can ensure AI projects operate reliably at scale. Woven’s tools help evaluate talent across all these categories.

Woven’s assessment technology includes real-world engineering scenarios and AI-enabled scoring systems developed from extensive performance data. These tools can simulate tasks similar to what engineers face on the job, rather than simply testing theoretical knowledge. Andela believes that by integrating this technology, companies will be able to hire more confidently, reduce hiring risk, and accelerate innovation cycles.

“Andela plus Woven equals the best technical assessment engine in the world to ensure AI fluency and real-world job success,” said Carrol Chang, CEO of Andela, in remarks shared with the press. “To power the AI ecosystem at scale, the world needs AI-native, enterprise-ready engineering talent en masse.”

As part of the acquisition, Woven’s CEO and founder, Wes Winham Winler, will join Andela’s leadership team and head up the development of next-generation assessments designed to predict success in both AI-assisted software development and broader AI system creation. Andela will also gain access to Woven’s extensive library of test scenarios, scoring rubrics, and subject matter expertise, adding depth to its talent evaluation suite.

For engineers, the integration means that future assessments may be more focused on practical application, hands-on tasks that simulate actual job responsibilities rather than purely theoretical questions. For companies, this means a clearer signal of candidate readiness, faster screening processes, and potentially lower costs associated with mismatched hires.

This development is also a sign of how competitive the AI talent market has become. As businesses worldwide race to adopt and scale artificial intelligence, the pressure to secure engineers with proven capabilities has intensified. Andela’s acquisition of Woven places it among the key players defining this new era of talent assessment and workforce readiness.

In economic terms, the deal could have broader implications. As companies increasingly rely on AI to automate tasks, innovate products, and gain competitive advantage, the ability to certify and deploy skilled talent efficiently becomes a market differentiator. By improving the reliability of technical hiring and reducing mismatches in global engineering talent pipelines, Andela’s strengthened platform could help lower recruitment costs, shorten project timelines, and accelerate investment in AI-driven sectors, contributing to stronger productivity across the tech economy. From an investment perspective, such acquisitions can also enhance investor confidence in tech marketplaces and fuel further innovation and capital inflows into job-ready AI talent solutions.
