Residents and business owners in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, are preparing for a four-month power outage starting March 19, 2026, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Ikeja Electric conduct maintenance on the 132kV GIS substation.

The upgrade aims to strengthen power infrastructure and enhance reliability and efficiency, but will affect key areas, including Old Ojo Road, Ijesha Express, Jakande 1 and 2, Amukoko, and Hongxing 1 and 2.

The outage highlights Nigeria’s ongoing power supply challenges, exacerbated by maintenance, grid collapses, and financial constraints.

Power generation companies are owed N6.8 trillion, crippling their operations. Ikeja Electric apologizes for the inconvenience and promises to minimize disruptions.

This isn’t an isolated incident; similar upgrades have been conducted in Lekki District, aiming to improve electricity supply.

The power supply crisis in Nigeria is worsened by various factors, including maintenance operations and electricity companies’ financial constraints.
