Condor Group, owned by Algerian tycoon Abderrahmane Benhamadi, has officially launched operations in Egypt, marking a significant milestone in its ambitious $1 billion regional expansion strategy. The move underscores the company’s shift from an export-led model to one centered on partnerships, local manufacturing, and long-term market presence.

The brand’s entry into Egypt was announced at a high-profile event attended by Algerian lawmakers and diplomats, alongside Egyptian industry executives, distributors, and air-conditioning sector stakeholders. Speaking at the event, Condor Group Vice Chairperson Mohamed Saleh Daas described Egypt as a cornerstone of the company’s growth plans, citing its large consumer market and strategic position as a gateway to the Middle East and Africa.

Daas revealed that Condor has signed several distribution and partnership agreements to anchor its operations in Egypt. He outlined the group’s three-pronged strategy: building a strong and trusted brand, delivering dependable after-sales services, and investing in local manufacturing. As part of this plan, Condor intends to establish production facilities in Egypt for televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners, a move expected to generate jobs, transfer skills, and boost local industrial capacity. Local manufacturing is scheduled to begin by 2027, leveraging the logistical proximity between Algeria and Egypt.

Founded as a diversified industrial group, Condor now spans 32 companies across 12 sectors, employs more than 17,000 people, and generates annual revenues exceeding $1.5 billion. The group accounts for nearly half of Algeria’s household appliance exports. Through its Condor Electronics unit, the company produces a wide range of products including televisions, smartphones, computers, home appliances, and solar panels, making it a household name in Algeria and beyond.

Condor recently strengthened its manufacturing footprint by opening Africa’s largest air-conditioning plant in partnership with Hisense, with capacity to produce up to two million units annually. This facility forms part of a five-year, $1 billion investment plan aimed at scaling global output to 10 million units per year and expanding into 35 international markets.

The air-conditioning units being introduced in Egypt are Eurovent-certified and designed to perform efficiently under fluctuating power conditions. By combining competitive pricing with international quality standards, Condor aims to deepen its presence in North Africa while extending its reach across the Middle East and the rest of the continent.
