The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has activated the subject combination correction process for candidates registered for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This measure allows applicants who selected incorrect subjects or need to adjust their choices to align with the entry requirements of their intended courses to make necessary corrections. The announcement was issued via the Board’s official social media page and underscores the urgency of acting promptly given the proximity of key registration deadlines.
Under the new directive, affected candidates are expected to visit any approved JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre with their registration credentials and valid identification in order to effect the changes. JAMB emphasised that accurate subject combinations are critical because selecting the wrong subjects can adversely affect eligibility and undermine prospects for admission into tertiary institutions.
The correction window is part of broader efforts by JAMB to tighten registration processes and reduce errors that could compromise the integrity of the UTME exercise. Candidates are advised to confirm the correct subject requirements for their chosen programmes before initiating changes. Authoritative subject combination guides and official JAMB resources should be consulted to avoid further mistakes.
This development comes at a time when the UTME registration cycle is approaching its final stages. The sale of e-PINs for the 2026 UTME is scheduled to end on February 26, 2026, with actual registration at accredited centres closing shortly thereafter. JAMB has stressed that these deadlines are firm and will not be extended. Candidates who have not completed registration by the stipulated dates risk forfeiting the opportunity to sit for the examination.
The 2026 UTME is set to take place nationwide between April 16 and April 25, 2026. More than 1.5 million candidates have already registered, with many still expected to finalise their processes as deadlines approach. This volume reflects the continued demand for tertiary education pathways in Nigeria and highlights the importance of getting all registration details correct to avoid unnecessary setbacks.
Failure to correct subject combinations in a timely manner could lead to candidates being tested in irrelevant subjects, which in turn can negatively impact their final UTME scores and admissibility into desired programmes. Errors in subject choices have historically been a common issue during UTME registrations, prompting examination bodies to emphasise strict compliance with guidelines.
In addition to subject combination corrections, candidates are reminded to ensure that all personal information, including biodata and identification details, are accurate on their profiles. These details form the basis of official records and are crucial for the validity of the registration exercise. Any discrepancies, unrelated to subject combinations, should also be addressed promptly at accredited centres or official JAMB offices.
JAMB’s position reflects its mandate to administer a fair and credible examination process. By opening the correction window, the Board hopes to mitigate preventable mistakes and uphold examination standards. Candidates are urged to take advantage of this opportunity without delay, as late corrections may not be accommodated once the registration window closes.
In summary, the subject combination correction initiative represents a practical response to common registration errors. It reinforces the need for candidates to be precise and informed throughout the UTME process. Prompt action, accurate subject selection, and adherence to deadlines remain essential components of a successful 2026 UTME registration.
