The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a formal investigation into a viral video showing a confrontation between an Aviation Security (AVSEC) officer and a female passenger at Osubi Airport, officially known as Alfred Diete-Spiff Airport, in Delta State.
The incident, which has attracted significant attention on social media, reportedly occurred during a security screening process when the officer questioned the passenger over canned milk and other tinned food items in her luggage. The disagreement later escalated into a verbal altercation within the airport terminal.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 26, 2026, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, confirmed that the authority was investigating the matter and had begun a fact-finding process to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the statement, FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has directed an immediate investigation into the episode.
“The Managing Director/Chief Executive views the matter with utmost seriousness and has directed an immediate investigation to establish all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” Agbebire said.
FAAN said the investigation would determine whether the conduct of the officer involved complied with the agency’s operational procedures, service standards and code of conduct. The authority added that any personnel found to have violated established regulations would face appropriate administrative and disciplinary actions in line with civil service rules and FAAN’s internal procedures.
The agency also assured the public that the investigation would be conducted transparently and that decisions would be guided by the findings.
The incident has generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users calling for greater professionalism and improved customer service during airport security checks. However, FAAN stressed that the ongoing investigation would establish the facts before any conclusions are reached.
While AVSEC personnel are responsible for enforcing aviation security regulations and ensuring the safety of passengers and airport facilities, FAAN reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of security, safety and customer service across its airports nationwide.
“The Authority appreciates the public’s interest and assures all airport users that every complaint is treated with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement said. “FAAN remains committed to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement in the delivery of safe, secure and passenger-focused airport services.”
As of the time of filing this report, no interim disciplinary measures had been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
