The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area in Lagos State has commenced the official registration of its citizens for the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme. This crucial exercise, which began with residents in Ward B, is the initial step in a significant poverty reduction initiative designed to provide targeted financial assistance to some of the most vulnerable families across the council area.
Mr Sesan Olowa, the council Chairman, officially announced the start of the registration on Tuesday, confirming that the process is scheduled to run from 7th October until 14th October. Speaking from the secretariat in Ibeju, he emphasised that the programme is a direct realisation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises social inclusion and effective poverty alleviation across Nigeria. Mr Olowa stated that the financial support aims to bolster the living standards of low-income households within the local government’s jurisdiction.
To ensure a fair and comprehensive data capture, the registration will take place at specially designated centres across all wards in the Ibeju-Lekki area. Residents are strongly advised to visit the centre closest to them on the specific date allocated to their ward. The Chairman stressed that the registration process is entirely free of charge, and urged everyone to provide accurate information to maintain transparency throughout the data collection.
Prospective applicants are required to furnish a range of personal and household details. These include basic biographical information such as their full name, date of birth, gender, marital status, home address, and a contact phone number. Furthermore, participants must provide a valid form of identification; accepted documents include a Voter’s Card, LASRRA, NIN (National Identity Number), or BVN (Bank Verification Number). To allow for detailed profiling, applicants will also be asked for information concerning their family size, the type of building they live in, their occupation, income level, and any relevant health or disability status.
This Conditional Cash Transfer is a key element of the government’s wider National Social Investment Programme (NSIP). Its primary goal is to lessen the economic hardship resulting from recent financial reforms and ensure that low-income families receive necessary relief.
Council Chairman Olowa reassured the public that his administration has put all necessary structures in place to guarantee a smooth and verifiable registration process across all wards. He highlighted that the CCT initiative is particularly focused on offering a pathway to economic stability for key demographics, including women, the elderly, and people with disabilities, ultimately improving their overall quality of life. The Chairman concluded by urging all qualified residents to actively participate in the exercise, ensuring they attend on their scheduled ward date with all authentic documents ready to secure their inclusion in the scheme.
