South African businessman Barry Swartzberg has seen the value of his stake in Discovery Limited drop by $15.05 million in the past two weeks, reflecting broader uncertainty affecting the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Swartzberg, co-founder of Discovery, holds a 3.92% stake in the financial services group, which has been impacted by concerns around economic growth, policy direction, and global interest-rate shifts.

Discovery Limited, founded in 1992 as a health insurance start-up, has grown into one of South Africa’s most prominent financial institutions, offering life insurance, savings products, asset management, and employee wellness programs.

The group has expanded internationally, with operations in the UK and parts of Asia.

Despite the decline, Discovery’s stock is still up 13.92% since the start of the year, and Swartzberg remains a key figure in South Africa’s corporate landscape.

The recent pullback may be seen as part of regular market fluctuations, but broader economic concerns continue to influence trading patterns on the JSE.
