The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has decisively extended his administration’s urban renewal programme to the historic city of Daura, announcing the award of a substantial road project valued at ₦19.55 billion. This significant investment is intended to advance the socio-economic activity of the area and modernise its infrastructure.
The core of the initiative involves the dualisation of a 14.43-kilometre bypass road. State officials explained that this extensive project will further expand the ancient city while specifically addressing notorious traffic congestion, often referred to as ‘gridlock’.
In a commitment to fairness and local well-being, the government has already deployed estate surveyors to the site. Their mandate is to meticulously assess the monetary value of all residential and non-residential structures that will be affected by the road’s construction. This proactive measure ensures the immediate payment of compensation to all property owners before construction officially commences.
A spokesperson from the state’s Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport confirmed the valuation process is complete, paving the way for the contractor to begin work on the 14.43-kilometre route.
This Daura bypass forms a key part of Governor Radda’s wider, sweeping urban renewal agenda for Katsina State. The overall scheme encompasses 55.35 kilometres of roads across the state, with officials confirming that 27.25 kilometres have already been finished and formally inaugurated by dignitaries, including the President and Vice-President. Beyond the state’s capital, other urban renewal projects have either been completed or are in various stages of completion across the Katsina and Funtua senatorial zones.
Furthermore, the state government is simultaneously focused on improving connectivity in rural areas. Construction of key rural roads designed to link local government areas and boost agricultural commerce is nearing completion, with the Director of Civil Engineering Services reporting that this aspect of the programme is currently 95 per cent complete. The Daura road project is therefore one more step in the administration’s concerted effort to revamp infrastructure across the entire state.
