President Bola Tinubu has appointed Fola Adeola, co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank, to chair a new taskforce focused on reforming Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
The Presidential Petroleum Reform and Value Optimisation Taskforce aims to drive structural changes, enhance transparency, and attract investments to the country’s oil industry.
The taskforce comprises experts like Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, Osagie Okunbor, and Abubakar Suleiman, and will report directly to President Tinubu.
The group’s primary objectives include delivering three key reform blueprints within six months, covering immediate structural fixes, capital and liquidity acceleration, and a 10-year national energy transformation strategy.
This initiative is expected to consolidate ongoing reforms, unlock capital, and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading global energy investment destination.
The appointment comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed global oil prices higher. Nigeria, being an oil-dependent economy, is likely to feel the impact of these price fluctuations.
Energy experts warn that if crude oil prices surge above $90 per barrel, Nigeria’s fuel prices may increase, affecting consumers.
The taskforce’s work is crucial, as Nigeria’s petroleum sector remains critical to the country’s economy.
With the global energy landscape evolving rapidly, Nigeria aims to optimize its oil resources, improve revenue generation, and drive sustainable economic growth.
