United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has approved its audited financial statements for the first half of 2026, marking another step toward the release of its latest financial performance to shareholders and investors.
The approval was made during a meeting of the bank’s board of directors held on August 13, 2026. However, the financial statements still require clearance from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before they can be officially released to the public.
UBA said it will notify the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the investing public once the CBN gives its approval. This means investors will have to wait for the regulatory process to be completed before gaining access to the bank’s half-year results.
The bank also confirmed that its closed period remains active. Under this restriction, directors and other insiders are prevented from trading in the bank’s shares around the period when important financial information is being prepared for release.
According to UBA, the closed period will remain in place until 24 hours after the audited half-year results are made public.
The development comes as Nigerian banks continue to attract close attention from investors, with financial results providing an important indication of how lenders are performing amid changing economic conditions.
In another major decision, UBA’s board approved the appointment of Ibrahim Puri as a non-executive director. His appointment, however, is also subject to approval by the CBN.
Puri brings more than 35 years of experience across several industries, including banking, financial technology, telecommunications and fast-moving consumer goods.
He is already familiar with UBA, having previously served as an executive director on the bank’s board before retiring from the position in 2022.
Since then, Puri has continued to hold leadership positions in the corporate sector. He currently serves as a non-executive director on the boards of companies including Nigerian Breweries Plc and 9mobile.
His return to UBA’s board, if approved by the CBN, would bring his previous experience with the bank together with his broader knowledge of different areas of the financial and corporate sectors.
UBA had earlier informed the NGX and investors that its board was scheduled to meet on August 13 to consider the bank’s audited half-year financial statements.
The latest announcement therefore represents the next stage in the process, with regulatory clearance now standing between the bank and the public release of its results.
For shareholders, analysts and other market participants, attention will now turn to the final approval and publication of UBA’s six-month performance.
