The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic diversions and road closures on parts of Lagos Island ahead of the seventh road edition of the Lagos Autofest 2025 Race, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 21 December 2025. The measures are intended to ensure the safety of participants and to allow the event to proceed smoothly without major disruption.
According to a traffic advisory issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, vehicles will face restrictions on key routes in the city between 12 noon and 7 pm on the day of the race. Motorists have been told that movement around Inner Marina, Marina Road and Kakawa Street will be affected during this period, with certain streets temporarily closed to normal traffic.
The advisory states that the race route will start at Marina Road (near UBA), continue along Kakawa Street, Balabina Street, Broad Street and Issah Williams Street, before returning to Inner Marina, which will serve as the race’s endpoint. To keep the course clear and secure, all intersections and junctions from Marina Road to Broad Street will be barricaded and restricted to authorised race-related movement only.
Traffic management authorities, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps, have been mobilised to manage vehicular movement along the affected routes and to help keep disruption to a minimum. The government has urged motorists to follow the directions of officers on the ground and to plan their journeys in advance.
In the advisory, drivers were also encouraged to exercise patience and cooperate with officials throughout the event, as the temporary restrictions are expected to affect traffic flow in and around the race corridor for several hours. Authorities said the measures were necessary to ensure orderly control of vehicles and public safety during the event.
Local residents and commuters have been advised to consider alternative routes or adjust their travel times on Sunday to avoid delays and inconvenience. The state government emphasised that the traffic management plan aims to balance the needs of both race organisers and road users by maintaining safety while keeping disruptions as limited as possible.
