Moniepoint has acquired Orda, a restaurant management software company, in a move that strengthens its push to embed payments directly into the day-to-day operations of merchants.
Under the deal, Orda will be rebranded as Moniebook for Restaurants and integrated into Moniebook, Moniepoint’s business management platform. Orda will continue to run as a standalone business until full integration is completed in the coming months.
The acquisition marks another step in Moniepoint’s transition from a payments company to a full-stack business platform offering sales, inventory, payments and financial services tools to African merchants.It also signals the growing role of mergers and acquisitions in Africa’s startup ecosystem, as larger companies use acquisitions to broaden capabilities and smaller firms find viable exit paths.
Although the value of the transaction was not disclosed, people familiar with the deal said about 25 Orda employees have joined Moniepoint. The acquisition covers only Orda’s Nigerian operations, leaving its Kenyan arm outside the transaction for now.Moniepoint’s interest in the restaurant sector comes as Nigeria’s food service market is projected to reach $12.37 billion in 2026.
The company said Nigerians spent about ₦8 billion daily at restaurants in 2025 using Moniepoint’s payment infrastructure.“Data has shown us that Africa’s restaurant sector is one of the continent’s most dynamic economic engines,” said Tosin Eniolorunda, Group Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint. “Yet the majority of food businesses still operate with manual processes and fragmented tools.”
Orda’s software is built specifically for restaurant operations, helping businesses manage ingredients, menus, recipes and order flows. Its clients include major Nigerian chains under the Eat’N’Go group, which operates Domino’s Pizza and Cold Stone Creamery franchises.
According to Orda’s 2024 food trend tracker, more than 1,075 restaurants used its platform, with over 31,600 menu items listed and 5.2 million transactions processed during the year.The integration is expected to close a major gap between restaurant management and payments.
In many restaurants, sales are recorded in one system while payments are processed separately, creating reconciliation delays and room for errors or leakages.
With Moniepoint’s payment layer built into Orda’s software, restaurant operators will be able to record sales, receive card or transfer payments, automatically confirm transactions and generate receipts from a single system. The integration is also expected to improve tracking, reduce unofficial payment routing and strengthen business visibility through the Moniebook dashboard.“
For our customers, we are assuring a smooth transition with no disruption to the platform and retained access to the support you are used to,” said Guy Futi, Chief Executive Officer of Orda.Moniepoint said the automated payment feature will launch on the existing Orda platform in the coming weeks, while new restaurant customers will be onboarded directly onto Moniebook for Restaurants.
The company is also prioritising integration with delivery platforms such as Chowdeck and Glovo as it expands Moniebook into a broader operating system for African businesses.
