Operations at the Lagos airfield were temporarily suspended on Monday, 23rd of February, after a fire broke out at the old international terminal (MM1) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
Air Peace said airport authorities shut the airfield to allow emergency responders contain the incident and protect passengers and infrastructure, warning that the disruption would ripple through its schedule.
In a separate update, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed a fire incident at Terminal 1, saying emergency teams were deployed immediately and that no loss of life was recorded. While restoration efforts continued, the temporary closure triggered inbound and outbound delays, with airlines bracing for knock-on effects across routes as aircraft rotations and departure slots were impacted.
The incident again underlined the operational sensitivity of Lagos, Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, where even brief interruptions can cascade into wider network delays for carriers and disrupt time-sensitive travel plans for passengers and businesses.
Airport authorities and operators said updates would follow as more verified information becomes available.
