Olajumoke Adenowo is one of Nigeria’s best-known architects and entrepreneurs, having built a career that stretches across architecture, interior design, property and oil and gas services.
Unlike entrepreneurs who became wealthy through banking, technology or entertainment, Adenowo’s business journey began with a profession she entered at a remarkably young age — architecture.
She was admitted to study architecture at Obafemi Awolowo University at the age of 14 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at 19. She later obtained a master’s degree in the same field. Her early professional experience included working with Towry Coker Associates and Femi Majekodunmi Associates. At 23, she was involved in the Federal Ministry of Finance project in Abuja, an experience that helped establish her professional reputation.
The major turning point came in 1994 when Adenowo founded AD Consulting at the age of 25. The company started on a very small scale but developed into an established architecture and design consultancy. The firm provides architecture, interior architecture, master planning and brand-environment consultancy services.
Over the years, AD Consulting has worked on projects for major Nigerian and multinational organisations, including Coca-Cola, L’Oréal, GTBank, Stanbic IBTC and Access Bank. The company says it has more than 35 years of professional experience behind its principal architect and has delivered numerous projects across different sectors.
This professional business became the foundation of Adenowo’s wealth and influence. Rather than relying on a single source of income, she expanded her entrepreneurial interests into other areas.
She also established Advantage Energy, an oil and gas services business, and Advantage Property, a property management company. These ventures gave her exposure to sectors outside traditional architectural practice. (
Her business model demonstrates how professional expertise can become a platform for entrepreneurship. Architecture gave her the technical skills, while building her own company allowed her to earn from large-scale projects and develop a long-term business.
Adenowo has also built value around her personal brand. She is an author, public speaker and leadership advocate, while her Voice of Change platform has focused on leadership and social development. She founded the Awesome Treasures Foundation in 1999, an organisation focused on developing transformational leaders.
Although exact figures for Adenowo’s personal wealth are not publicly established, available records show that her financial success is closely linked to decades of professional practice, entrepreneurship and diversification rather than a publicly documented single windfall.
Her story offers a lesson for aspiring Nigerian entrepreneurs: wealth can be built by mastering a profession, creating a company around that expertise, winning major clients and gradually expanding into related businesses.
From starting her architectural firm with a small operation to becoming an internationally recognised architect, Adenowo’s journey shows how specialised knowledge can be turned into a lasting business empire.
