Geregu Power Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Sean Manley as its Interim Chief Executive Officer, with the role set to begin on February 2, 2026, pending approval from regulators and shareholders.
The board of the listed power generation company notified the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) of Mr. Manley’s appointment, which remains subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and ratification at the next general meeting of shareholders.
This leadership change takes place against a backdrop of strategic shifts in the company’s ownership and organisational focus. Late in December 2025, a significant change in core ownership occurred when MA’AM Energy Limited acquired a controlling stake in Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited, which in turn holds a majority equity interest in Geregu Power. As a result, control previously exercised by Calvados Global Services Limited and billionaire investor Femi Otedola was transferred to the new owner.
The board articulated confidence that Mr. Manley’s extensive operational and technical experience will support Geregu Power during this transition period.
Mr. Manley brings more than three decades of experience in the global power sector. His career covers a broad range of functions, including sales, business development, project execution, supply chain management, and OEM‑led delivery operations in energy markets. A significant portion of his professional life was spent with Siemens, where he gained deep expertise in thermal power generation, particularly in plant construction, commissioning, major overhauls, and ongoing operations and maintenance.
Mr. Manley is widely recognised as a practical problem‑solver with a track record of managing complex energy infrastructure projects in challenging environments while maintaining operational efficiency and reliability. His experience also includes managing multi‑million‑dollar business units, navigating complex supply chains, and leading cross‑functional teams toward successful delivery outcomes.
In addition to technical and operational capabilities, Mr. Manley has substantial expertise in client and stakeholder relationship management, market development, and strategic planning. His career has involved close engagement with regulators, project partners, and host communities across multiple countries, equipping him with strong intercultural and leadership skills.
The board has stated that “Mr. Manley’s leadership depth and industry experience are expected to add significant value to the company as it consolidates its operational base and advances its long‑term growth plans.” Additionally, the board noted that “his appointment aligns with Geregu Power’s focus on operational excellence, reliability, and disciplined execution in Nigeria’s evolving power sector.”
This appointment should be seen in the context of broader strategic objectives. Geregu Power operates a major thermal power plant that plays a key role in Nigeria’s electricity grid. As a listed entity, it not only generates power but also competes for investor capital and must sustain performance amid operational challenges typical of Nigeria’s power market. Effective leadership is critical for navigating market dynamics, regulatory expectations, and investor interests.
The company’s recent financials indicate a complex backdrop: while Geregu Power has proposed a dividend increase for shareholders, its cash flow profile raises questions about liquidity and sustainability. Analysts note that operating margins have come under pressure, with weaker cash generation and rising working capital demands, factors that will demand disciplined execution under the new interim CEO’s stewardship.
With a leadership transition underway, Geregu Power’s ability to balance immediate operational stability with long‑term strategic growth will be closely watched by investors and regulators. Mr. Manley’s appointment is a clear signal that the company prioritises seasoned technical leadership during a period of ownership transition and market complexity.
In summary, the interim CEO appointment is designed to ensure continuity and strengthen governance as Geregu Power adapts to new ownership and evolves its business strategy within Nigeria’s dynamic power sector.
