The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered $104,950 for a United States-based Nigerian businesswoman, Adeshola Oshilaja, following a dispute over funds provided for the procurement of 10 dump trucks from China.
The commission handed over the outstanding $56,000 to Oshilaja on Friday, October 9, 2026, at its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 in Ikoyi, completing the recovery of the full amount involved in the complaint.
According to reports published by Vanguard and other Nigerian media on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the latest handover followed an earlier payment of $48,950 made directly to Oshilaja by her business associate and family friend, Babatunde Samuel Akinsanmi.
The case began after Oshilaja petitioned the EFCC, alleging that Akinsanmi failed to account for funds she provided for the purchase of the trucks.
According to the commission’s account of the investigation, Oshilaja transferred $104,950 to two Chinese companies, Jinan Goneng Power Technology Company and China Howo Heavy Truck Industry Limited, on Akinsanmi’s instructions.
The EFCC said its investigation established that both parties signed a written agreement on July 25, 2023, under which Akinsanmi acknowledged receiving the money for the procurement and undertook to refund it on or before December 31, 2023.
However, six of the trucks were subsequently delivered to Akinsanmi in Nigeria. Oshilaja alleged that he retained the vehicles for business use without remitting the proceeds to her.
The commission said the recovery was completed through two payments: $48,950 paid earlier and the outstanding $56,000 recovered and handed over to the businesswoman in cash.
Speaking at the handover, the EFCC’s Acting Zonal Director, Assistant Commander of the EFCC I Adebayo Adeniyi, said the recovery demonstrated the commission’s commitment to returning recovered funds and assets to their rightful owners through due process.
Adeniyi, who was represented by the Head of Public Affairs, Deputy Commander of the EFCC Ayo Oyewole, said the commission would continue investigating alleged financial crimes and pursuing appropriate restitution for victims.
Oshilaja expressed gratitude to the commission for its efforts, saying she was pleased with the recovery and regarded her experience as evidence of the EFCC’s work in Nigeria.
The recovery brings the total amount returned to Oshilaja in the disputed transaction to $104,950.
