Efforts to improve road safety in Ogun State have received fresh support following renewed collaboration between Dangote Cement Plc, Ibese Plant, and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The partnership was strengthened when the newly deployed Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, and members of his management team visited the Dangote Cement Ibese Plant.
The meeting focused on ways to make roads safer, improve driver competence and encourage better compliance with traffic regulations. Both organisations also discussed the importance of educating drivers and other road users on responsible road use.
Speaking during the visit, Ogunjobi praised Dangote Cement for its continued support for the FRSC and its contributions to road safety programmes. He described the cement company as one of the Corps’ dependable corporate partners.
According to him, Dangote Cement’s large transportation and logistics operations make road safety particularly important to its business. He said the company’s existing safety culture provides a good foundation for deeper cooperation with the FRSC.
Ogunjobi stressed that road safety cannot be achieved by government agencies alone. He noted that businesses, transport operators, professional drivers and members of the public all have important roles to play in reducing road crashes and protecting lives.
He also proposed the creation of an FRSC Special Marshal Unit within the Ibese Plant. The proposed unit would help promote safety awareness among workers, drivers and other people connected to the company’s transportation activities.
Responding to the proposal, the Plant Director of Dangote Cement, Ibese Plant, Mr. Ayyagri Subbaraidu, described the FRSC as an important stakeholder in the company’s operations.
He commended the Corps for its efforts to protect road users and reduce accidents across Nigeria. Subbaraidu explained that transportation is a major part of Dangote Cement’s business, making road safety a key priority for the company.
He said safety goes beyond simply meeting government regulations and remains an important part of the company’s daily operations and long-term growth plans.
Subbaraidu also linked the company’s commitment to road safety to its Vision 2030 strategy, which focuses on responsible operations, sustainability and stronger relationships with stakeholders.
He welcomed the ideas presented by the FRSC Sector Commander and assured the delegation that Dangote Cement would continue to consider practical initiatives that could improve safety.
The renewed partnership highlights the growing importance of cooperation between businesses and government agencies in tackling road safety challenges. With Dangote Cement operating a significant transportation network, stronger safety measures could help protect its employees, drivers and other road users across Ogun State.
