The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates. This announcement was made on Monday by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the WAEC National Office in Lagos, following the conclusion of the examination held in late October and November 2025.
The available data indicates that a total of 69,604 candidates registered for the 2025 Second Series CB-WASSCE, representing a modest 1.8 percent increase over the 2024 figure of 68,342. Of this cohort, 65,752 candidates eventually sat for the examination across 370 centres in Nigeria.
Analysis of the results shows that performance among private candidates remains modest. Of the 65,752 candidates who sat the examination, 33,989, or 51.69 percent, achieved credit passes in at least five subjects with or without English Language and Mathematics. Within that group, 27,727 candidates, or 42.17 percent, secured credit passes in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics, the core threshold often required for tertiary education and formal employment screening.
This performance figure also reveals a slight decline compared to recent years. In the same series for 2023 and 2024, the percentage of candidates achieving similar benchmarks was 44.29 percent and 53.64 percent respectively. The current result, therefore, reflects a marginal decrease in performance that warrants critical attention from educators, policymakers, and stakeholders involved in private candidate preparation and support.
Gender distribution among candidates was roughly balanced. Of those who sat, 32,005 were male (48.68 percent) and 33,747 were female (51.32 percent). Among candidates who achieved five credits including English and Mathematics, 13,416 were male (48.39 percent) and 14,311 were female (51.61 percent), suggesting slightly higher success among female candidates.
From a processing standpoint, WAEC confirmed that results for 61,943 candidates (94.21 percent) have been fully processed and released. However, results for 3,809 candidates (5.79 percent) are still being finalised due to subject-level errors traceable to the candidates themselves. WAEC has indicated that these issues are under review and that the remaining results will be released once resolved.
Additionally, WAEC is withholding the results of 1,899 candidates, equivalent to 2.89 percent of those who sat, in connection with reported cases of examination malpractice. These cases are under investigation, and their outcomes will be determined by the appropriate Council Committee and communicated directly to affected candidates.
Candidates are advised to verify their results on the official WAEC Direct portal before accessing the Digital Certificate platform to retrieve digital copies of their certificates. Hard-copy certificates can be requested through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman).
