An Arik Air Boeing 737-700 aircraft, operating flight W3-740 from Lagos to Port Harcourt, diverted to Benin Airport on Wednesday after the crew heard a loud bang from the left engine.

The plane, with 80 passengers on board, landed safely, and all passengers and crew disembarked without injury.

Arik Air confirmed the incident, stating that the flight crew took precautionary measures and diverted to Benin Airport.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the incident, citing an in-flight engine anomaly.

The NSIB’s preliminary assessment indicates significant damage to the affected engine.

An investigation team is en route to Benin to gather evidence and interview personnel.

A Preliminary Report is expected within 30 days, with a Final Report to follow upon completion of the investigation.
