In a decisive move toward fiscal accountability, Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, presented a proposed budget estimate of ₦914,863,422,871 for the 2026 financial year to the State House of Assembly.  The plan aligns with the simultaneous submission of the State Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and the Fiscal Strategy Paper covering 2026–2028, both of which aim to underpin sustainable planning, efficient resource allocation, and fiscal discipline across the state’s ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the budget was crafted with diligence, vision, and a deep sense of responsibility, highlighting his administration’s ongoing commitment to prudent governance and effective service delivery. In reviewing the 2025 fiscal year, he noted key reforms in revenue mobilisation and public expenditure, all designed to boost internally-generated revenue and promote more judicious use of public funds.

Calling for continued legislative cooperation, he urged lawmakers to expedite the budget’s passage in order to further demonstrate their shared commitment to timely service delivery and responsible governance. He also praised the legislature for its support, describing the members as partners in the state’s developmental vision: “I salute your courage, forthrightness, and resilience.”

Governor Mutfwang addressed Plateau residents directly, urging them to contribute to the state’s progress and embrace unity beyond political divides: “The future and destiny of our dear state rest in our collective hands. Our doors remain open to constructive criticism, fresh ideas, and meaningful contributions that can further advance our developmental goals.”

When the speaker of the assembly, Naanlong Daniel, responded, he commended the governor for the clarity and thoroughness of his presentation and assured that the budget would receive “speedy but thorough consideration.”

The ₦914.9 billion budget aligns with efforts to enhance revenue generation, boost economic growth, and maintain sustainable public finance. Efficient allocation and internal revenue reform could support job creation and infrastructure investment in Plateau State, aiding regional economic resilience amid broader national fiscal challenges.
