In a bold leap forward for clean-energy infrastructure in West Africa, Siatech Africa has announced its ambitious plan to construct Liberia’s first fully solar-powered city. The firm describes the initiative as one rooted in purpose and innovation, aimed not simply at deploying solar panels, but at building a hub where renewable energy, digital connectivity and sustainable development converge.
According to the company’s CEO, Olanrewaju Olaniyan, “The idea behind this project is really rooted in purpose. When our client first discussed the vision of a digital village powered entirely by clean energy, it resonated deeply with what we stand for at Siatech Africa.” He explains that Liberia’s biggest barrier to digital inclusion is unreliable electricity, and that tackling this can empower everything from schools and clinics to small businesses and innovation hubs. “If we can use solar technology to bridge that gap, to power schools, clinics, small businesses, and innovation hubs, then we’re not just lighting up homes; we’re unlocking potential.”
Siatech describes the solar-city model as more than just a power project. “We’re not just deploying solar panels; we’re integrating intelligent systems that optimise power usage, monitor grid performance in real time, and support digital services like Wi-Fi and e-learning platforms,” Olaniyan said. He adds: “Projects of this scale are never done in isolation. We’ve built strong partnerships with renewable-energy firms, smart-grid solution providers, and technology OEMs who share our commitment to Africa’s sustainability journey.”
This initiative aligns with Liberia’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on hydroelectric power, a sector that falters during the dry season. By investing in a solar-powered city, Liberia stands to improve energy access, foster digital infrastructure, and enhance economic resilience.
From an economic perspective, the project offers more than energy access. It signals potential for job creation, local capacity building and increased investor confidence. By enabling reliable electricity and connectivity, the solar city serves as a catalyst for entrepreneurship and business growth, helping Liberia strengthen its economic foundations.
Overall, through the collaboration of government, private sector and local stakeholders, Siatech Africa’s solar-city concept sets a new standard for sustainable urban development in Liberia; one where clean power, digital inclusion and economic opportunity go hand-in-hand.
