Moody’s Ratings has affirmed Côte d’Ivoire’s long-term sovereign rating at Ba2 with a stable outlook, underscoring confidence in the country’s economic trajectory and fiscal management. The rating places Côte d’Ivoire among the stronger sovereign credits in sub-Saharan Africa, reflecting sustained reform momentum and growth resilience.
The agency highlighted robust growth prospects, with the economy expected to expand by 6 to 7 percent annually, driven by public investment, private sector activity, and increasing diversification. While cocoa remains central to the economy, sectors such as industry, services, mining, and hydrocarbons are gaining momentum, supported by projects like the Baleine offshore oil field.
Moody’s also pointed to improving public finances, with fiscal discipline aligned to regional benchmarks and rising tax revenues broadening the revenue base. Public debt is projected to gradually decline over the next few years, strengthening the country’s debt sustainability profile and reducing vulnerability to external shocks.
Together, these factors are strengthening investor confidence and reinforcing Côte d’Ivoire’s position as a key economy within the West African region. The stable outlook reflects Moody’s assessment that risks to the rating are balanced, with growth momentum likely to continue while fiscal consolidation progresses.
For Côte d’Ivoire, the affirmation provides external validation of policy direction and supports continued access to international capital markets on favourable terms. It also signals to investors that the country remains a relatively safe destination for capital in a region where political and economic risks can be elevated.
The rating covers multiple dimensions of sovereign risk, including economic strength, institutional capacity, fiscal position, and susceptibility to event risk. Côte d’Ivoire’s performance across these metrics has improved steadily since the post-election crisis, reflecting sustained investment in infrastructure, governance reforms, and human capital development.
