Tony Idugboe has built a career at the intersection of finance, investment and technology, moving from Wall Street to become one of the Nigerian professionals contributing to the growth of businesses and Africa’s capital markets.

Idugboe began his international career after studying Accounting at Howard University in the United States. He joined Merrill Lynch as an investment banking analyst before moving to Goldman Sachs, where he worked with the private equity group within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. He later spent about five years with Morgan Stanley Investment Management, focusing on alternative investments and hedge-fund strategies.

Rather than remaining abroad, Idugboe returned to Nigeria in 2017, bringing years of experience in global finance back to the country. His interest in African entrepreneurship also led him to co-found early-stage investment clubs, including Kernel Fund and Rana Capital, which invested in African startups.

His Nigerian investment journey gained greater visibility through Itanna, the venture investment platform backed by Honeywell Group. As Vice President and Head of Investments, he helped identify and support technology-driven startups, combining capital with mentorship and business expertise.

Under his involvement, Itanna focused on helping promising startups develop their businesses and attract additional investment. The platform’s accelerator programmes provided selected companies with funding, guidance and opportunities to connect with investors.

Idugboe later moved to Interswitch, where he took on responsibility for mergers and acquisitions and venture-related activities. His move reflected the growing importance of corporate investment and strategic acquisitions in Nigeria’s technology and financial-services sectors.

He subsequently became associated with the Nigerian Exchange Group, serving as Group Chief Investment Officer. His work has placed him within Nigeria’s capital-market ecosystem, where investment strategy, corporate growth and market development intersect. NGX records have listed him as part of the group’s executive management structure.

Idugboe’s career highlights a broader shift in Nigeria’s business environment: professionals with experience in global financial institutions are increasingly returning home to participate in investment, technology and capital-market development.

His journey from international investment banking to African startups and Nigeria’s capital markets demonstrates how financial expertise can be redirected toward building businesses and strengthening investment opportunities across the continent.
