The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria is seeking feedback from Nigerians as the country joins the global World Investor Week 2026, with this year’s campaign focusing on investor resilience, digital deception and investment scams.
The week-long campaign, which runs from October 5 to October 11, 2026, is being promoted globally by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to strengthen investor education and protection.
According to IOSCO’s 2026 campaign materials, the initiative is themed “Invest in Your Future. Protect It Today” and is built around three major areas: investor resilience, digital deception and scam alerts. The campaign also highlights investment basics and the next generation of investors.
The SEC Nigeria’s feedback initiative is aimed at gathering views on the challenges facing investors in the Nigerian market and how investor protection and education can be strengthened.
The Commission’s investor education programme covers investment basics, investment strategies and investor protection, reflecting its mandate to promote an equitable, effective and open Nigerian capital market, according to information published by the SEC.
The focus on digital deception comes as investors increasingly encounter investment opportunities through social media, websites and other online platforms, where fraudulent operators can present themselves as legitimate investment companies.
The SEC maintains a register of capital market operators and advises investors to verify the status of investment platforms before committing funds. The Commission’s investor portal states that operators are required to register with the SEC before commencing operations.
The regulator also maintains a section for known investment scams and investor alerts as part of its protection efforts.
For Nigerian investors, the feedback exercise provides an opportunity to highlight the scams and misleading investment offers they encounter, identify gaps in financial education and suggest ways the capital market can become more accessible to first-time and low-income investors.
As World Investor Week continues until October 11, 2026, the global campaign is urging investors to remain informed, assess investment risks and take steps to protect themselves against increasingly sophisticated forms of financial fraud.
