Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s aviation growth through sustained investment in modern equipment, skilled personnel, and innovative service solutions, following its designation as sole ground handling provider at the newly commissioned Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State. Chairman Dr Taiwo Afolabi expressed delight at the development, stating that the partnership reflects confidence in SAHCO’s capabilities and its consistent record of delivering efficient and reliable aviation services nationwide.

“Being selected as sole ground handler highlights our readiness to deliver seamless operations at new and existing airports nationwide,” Afolabi said in a statement signed by Mrs Vanessa Uansohia, Head of Corporate Communications. The Gateway International Airport was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on April 4, marking a significant addition to Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and a key component of Ogun State’s economic development strategy.

Afolabi noted that SAHCO’s partnership with Allied Air would enhance cargo operations, ensuring efficient processing of time-sensitive and high-value goods. He added that the modern warehouse complex would support both import and export operations, improving turnaround time and service delivery, with the development expected to boost capacity across agriculture, manufacturing, and e-commerce sectors. For businesses in Ogun State’s industrial corridors, improved cargo handling capabilities could reduce logistics costs and delivery times.

The designation of SAHCO as sole ground handler at Gateway Airport represents a vote of confidence in the company’s operational standards. SAHCO has invested significantly in ground support equipment, cargo facilities, and personnel training, positioning itself as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation services sector. The company’s ability to secure exclusive handling rights at a new airport suggests that its service quality and reliability have been recognised by airport authorities and potential airline customers.

From an economic perspective, the development of Gateway Airport and the presence of a capable ground handler could stimulate economic activity in Ogun State. The airport is expected to serve businesses in the state’s industrial zones, including the Olokola Free Trade Zone and various manufacturing clusters, by providing faster connectivity for executives and more efficient cargo processing for exporters. SAHCO’s role in ensuring smooth operations will be critical to the airport’s success in attracting airlines and cargo carriers.
