Rite Foods Limited has reported significant progress in its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts, revealing that it reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by five per cent in 2025 while increasing its investment in community development projects by 50 per cent to ₦581.92 million.

The company disclosed these achievements in its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting its commitment to building a more environmentally friendly and socially responsible business. According to the report, Rite Foods also reduced its carbon intensity by 23 per cent and reaffirmed its long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2060.

Speaking during the presentation of the report, the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Ekuma Eze, said Rite Foods remains focused on reducing emissions across its operations and supply chain as part of its climate action strategy.

The report showed that the company’s total greenhouse gas emissions fell by five per cent compared to the previous year. It also revealed that the amount of carbon dioxide released for every litre of beverage produced dropped by 23 per cent, reflecting improvements in production efficiency.

Rite Foods also made notable progress in water conservation. The company reduced its water consumption by 15 per cent between 2024 and 2025 through closer monitoring of operations and better resource management. This effort, it said, reflects its recognition that water is a valuable natural resource that must be carefully managed.

Energy efficiency also improved during the year. Total energy consumption declined by seven per cent, while the amount of energy used to produce each litre of beverage dropped from 0.44 megajoules in 2024 to 0.41 megajoules in 2025.

Waste management remained another key focus. The company reduced solid waste generation by 27 per cent, lowering waste intensity from 10.6 grams per litre of beverage produced in 2024 to 7.71 grams in 2025.

To address plastic pollution, Rite Foods strengthened its recycling initiatives through partnerships with environmental organisations. Under its “Rite on the Beach” campaign, carried out with Hope Beach Club, the company recovered more than 42 tonnes of plastic waste from coastal communities across Lagos.

Its partnership with the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) also contributed to the recovery of over 800 tonnes of plastic waste from the environment, with Rite Foods accounting for 558.2 tonnes of the total. Many of the recycled plastics were transformed into school bags, which were distributed to more than 2,000 pupils across nine schools in Lagos State.

Beyond environmental sustainability, the company expanded its social impact programmes. Spending on education, healthcare, women empowerment and community development rose to ₦581.92 million in 2025, representing a 50 per cent increase from the previous year.

Among its major projects is a community learning centre that provides free education and daily meals to more than 400 pupils. The company also distributed free drinking water to essential workers during World Water Day celebrations and supported the construction and equipping of a trauma centre at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital through its chairman’s foundation. The project is valued at over ₦2 billion.

Rite Foods also invested more in its workforce, recording a 76 per cent increase in employee training and capacity-building programmes. Employment opportunities for residents of host communities increased by 4.1 per cent, while the company’s total workforce grew by 6.1 per cent. It also introduced a graduate trainee programme involving 20 young Nigerians to help develop future business leaders.

The company said its operations continue to create thousands of indirect jobs through distributors, retailers and suppliers across its value chain.

On governance, Rite Foods reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance and effective risk management. According to the company, its board continues to strengthen internal controls to reduce fraud risks, ensure compliance with regulations and support long-term business growth.

With continued investments in sustainability, environmental protection and community development, Rite Foods says it is positioning itself for long-term growth while contributing positively to Nigeria’s economy and society.
