The MTN CHAMPS Grand Final 100 meter races on Wednesday in Ibadan delivered exciting finishes as athletes across junior and senior categories recorded multiple Personal Best and Season Best performances.
The senior men’s 100 meter final ended in a dramatic tie as Chidera Ezeakor and Enich Adegoke both crossed the line in 10.15s to share the title. Chibueze Ezeakor finished third in 10.35s. Earlier in the heats, Tejiri Godwin led with a Personal Best of 10.29s, while Chidera Ezeakor ran 10.31s and Adegoke posted 10.34s.
Adegoke said, “I feel good. It is an excellent win for me after all the hard work I put into preparation.
“Toward the finish, I was not focused on winning but improving my time to stay competitive, which was my main target.
“What God cannot do does not exist. I kept faith while putting in the effort required.”
In the women’s 100 meter final, Maria Omokwe claimed victory in a Personal Best of 11.26s, equalling the fastest time recorded in Nigeria this year. She had earlier run 11.35s in the semi finals. Janet Sunday placed second with 11.66s Personal Best, while Omoyeni Lydia Ajayi Bibilomo finished third in 11.69s.
In the junior women’s race, Ejiro Peter won in 11.39s after setting a Personal Best of 11.29s in the semi finals. Chigozie Nwankwo came second in 11.48s, while Lucy Nwankwo of Team MTN finished third in 11.57s.
The junior men’s 100 meter final was won by Abdulrahman Jimoh in 10.57s Personal Best, ahead of Liberty Okon in 10.62s and Alvin Onyeama in 10.66s.
In the senior men’s 400 meter hurdles, Ndiponke Okure took first place, followed by Sodiq Adebisi and Olorunwa Olowu. In the junior category, Oseiwe Salami won gold in 51.60s, with Ibrahim Muhammed second and Solomon Eloghosa Okundaye third.
