Market Surges: Equities Add “N110bn” in One Session

The Nigerian equities market extended its upward run on Tuesday, recording a gain of N110 billion — its eighth straight day of growth. The market’s value, which began the day at N91.921 trillion, rose by 0.12 percent to close at N92.031 trillion.

The All‑Share Index also climbed, rising by 172.48 points or 0.12 percent to 144,995.26, up from 144,822.78 at Monday’s close. Strong buying interest in stocks such as Cornerstone Insurance, Consolidated Hallmark Holdings, CHAMS, VFD Group, International Energy Insurance, and 34 others fueled the rally.

On the winners’ side, Cornerstone Insurance led gains with a 9.92 percent jump, finishing at N6.65. Consolidated Hallmark Holdings followed with a 9.52 percent rise to N4.37, and CHAMS added 9.22 percent to close at N4.62 per share. VFD Group gained 9.17 percent to N11.90, while International Energy Insurance ended up 8.82 percent at N2.96.

However, not all stocks joined the rally. Livingtrust Mortgage Bank slipped 10 percent to N5.94, leading the losers. Austin Laz dipped 9.74 percent to N3.15, Juli lost 9.60 percent to N8.95, Livestock Feeds was down 7.50 percent at N7.40, and Tantalizer dropped 6.45 percent to N2.32.

Market breadth was positive with 39 gainers versus 34 losers. Trading activity dipped slightly: 507.41 million shares worth N24.29 billion changed hands across 30,681 deals, compared to 519.92 million shares worth N14.55 billion in 35,490 deals the previous day.

The most active stocks by volume included Access Corporation with 45.86 million shares valued at N1.19 billion, Ellah Lakes with 39.49 million shares worth N594.3 million, and CHAMS with 30.8 million shares valued at N140.17 million. Others among the top traded were Sovereign Trust Insuranceand Aradel Holdings.
