The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has given taxpayers a breather, extending the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns by two weeks, from March 31 to April 14, 2026.

This move aims to provide individuals with extra time to complete and submit accurate tax returns, emphasizing the importance of timely filing and compliance.

LIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Ayodele Subair, stressed that compliance should be a routine personal practice for all taxpayers, and electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform is the only approved method, as manual filings have been fully phased out. Taxpayers are encouraged to verify their TaxID to avoid delays or errors.

This extension follows a similar move in January, when LIRS extended the deadline for employers’ annual tax returns.

The Nigerian government has been modernizing the tax framework, introducing new laws, including the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Act and the Nigerian Tax Administration Act.
