Fidelity Bank Plc has announced a planned change at the top of its board leadership following the completion of Mr. Mustafa Chike-Obi’s tenure as Chairman, ushering in Mrs. Amaka Onwughalu as the new Board Chairman effective January 1, 2026.
The bank confirmed the leadership shift in a formal notice signed by its Company Secretary, notifying the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) of the transition. This move aligns with Fidelity Bank’s robust corporate governance and succession planning framework.
Mrs. Onwughalu, a seasoned banker with over 30 years of experience across the financial sector, joined Fidelity Bank’s board in December 2020 and has held key committee roles, including chairing the Board Credit Committee and the Bank Capitalisation Committee. Her deep familiarity with the bank’s operations and governance is seen as vital for continuity.
Under Mr. Chike-Obi’s leadership, the bank made strides in key financial indicators, strengthened its capital base, expanded digital banking capabilities, and boosted investor confidence through sound risk management and operational efficiency. “The dedication of our Board, management, and staff has enabled us to reach significant milestones,” he remarked, expressing confidence in the bank’s future under new leadership.

This leadership change at one of Nigeria’s major banks comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen financial sector stability and boost investor confidence.
