The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans for the second edition of the Lagos Energy Summit, scheduled for May 18 to May 20, 2026, as part of efforts to accelerate investment and strengthen electricity infrastructure across the state.
Organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the three-day event will take place at the Lagos Oriental Hotel and is expected to attract policymakers, regulators, financiers, developers, and energy innovators from within and outside Nigeria.
Themed “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future,” the summit is positioned as a strategic platform to move the state from regulatory reform to project execution, following the enactment of the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024. The law established a framework for subnational electricity governance and investment, opening the door for greater private sector participation in the power value chain.
According to a statement by the government, discussions will centre on expanding renewable energy deployment, promoting decentralised generation, improving distribution networks, and addressing grid constraints and energy poverty. The summit will also examine how reliable power supply can support Lagos’ ambition of transitioning to a 24-hour economy.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will host the event, with Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat serving as co-host. The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, will coordinate proceedings as team lead.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ogunleye said the summit “will not only review progress recorded since the enactment of the Lagos State Electricity Law but will also catalyse actionable partnerships that deliver measurable outcomes across the generation, transmission, and distribution value chains.”
Participants will engage in plenary sessions, technical masterclasses, investment roundtables, exhibitions, and business-to-business matchmaking sessions. The government indicated that expected outcomes include the signing of memoranda of understanding, development of public-private partnership frameworks, and firm project commitments. Technical site visits to major energy infrastructure projects across Lagos are also planned.
With more than 4,000 participants expected both physically and virtually, the summit is projected to draw regional and international media coverage. Officials say the event is designed to generate tangible solutions that will advance sustainable, reliable, and inclusive energy access for residents and businesses in Africa’s largest city.
