Lagos State is seeking a pathway to round-the-clock electricity supply as it prepares to bring regulators, electricity distribution companies and private investors together to address persistent power challenges affecting households and businesses across the state.

The state government will host the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit on November 10 and 11, with a technical tour scheduled for November 12, to examine structural problems in the electricity market and develop practical solutions for improving energy access.

The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, announced the plans on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during a press briefing in Lagos.

The summit, themed “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future,” will bring together government officials, regulators, electricity distributors, resellers, suppliers, investors, academics and energy innovators.

Ogunleye said discussions would focus on electricity sector reforms, regulatory responsibilities between federal and state governments, metering solutions, energy efficiency and renewable energy development.

The commissioner also identified compressed natural gas (CNG), electric vehicles and other alternative energy sources as important areas of discussion as Lagos explores ways to strengthen its energy infrastructure and support cleaner transportation.

He disclosed that the state was engaging the Federal Government to clarify regulatory responsibilities and strengthen Lagos’s control over its electricity market following the enactment of the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ibilola Kasumu, said the summit would move beyond policy speeches and conventional discussions by presenting actual industry problems for experts and stakeholders to address.

“This summit is going to be different from the last one. It is not just going to be a talk shop. We are going to bring real problems to the table and look for solutions from different experts in this sector,” Kasumu said.

She explained that the objective was to develop practical solutions through collaboration among regulators, electricity distributors, suppliers and other players across the energy value chain.

According to Kasumu, the state hopes to establish a framework for achieving stable, round-the-clock electricity supply in Lagos, with the possibility of replicating successful solutions in other parts of Nigeria.

The summit will also showcase clean-energy innovations developed by secondary school students, giving young people an opportunity to present their projects and prototypes to industry stakeholders.

The initiative comes as electricity supply challenges continue to affect businesses and households in different parts of Lagos.

In February 2026, residents of Waterfront Estate, Sekumade Estate and NBC Community in the Ebute area of Ikorodu protested at Ikeja Electric’s business district office over an eight-month electricity outage.

In a report published on February 28, 2026, The Punch said the residents attributed the blackout, which began in August 2025, to a faulty transformer that had not been replaced.

The residents said the prolonged outage had disrupted businesses and forced households to spend heavily on petrol and generators.

For Lagos businesses, unreliable electricity increases operating costs through generator fuel, equipment maintenance and alternative power arrangements, adding pressure on small businesses already dealing with rising operating expenses.

The Lagos Energy Summit is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to examine these challenges, explore investment opportunities and develop solutions across electricity generation, distribution and alternative energy.

The main summit will hold at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, on November 10 and 11, while the technical tour will take place on November 12, according to the event’s official website.

The outcome of the engagements will be important in determining how effectively Lagos can translate its electricity market reforms and private-sector investment drive into more reliable power supply for residents and businesses.
