Kenyan businessman David Langat is set to revolutionize the country’s healthcare sector with a $200 million tertiary hospital in Eldoret, a project aimed at reducing the number of Kenyans seeking medical treatment abroad.
The hospital, a joint venture between Langat’s Balmer Healthcare and India’s Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, will offer world-class medical services across over 20 specialties.
The partnership between Balmer Healthcare and Apollo Hospitals is a significant investment in Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure. Apollo will provide specialist expertise, brand credibility, and operational management, while Balmer will build the hospital. The project is expected to be rolled out in four phases, with the goal of providing high-quality medical care to patients across Kenya and the region.
The hospital is strategically located in Eldoret, a regional hub in western Kenya, to cater to patients from across the country and neighboring nations. Kenya currently loses significant revenue to healthcare tourism, with many patients seeking treatment in India, South Africa, and other countries. The new hospital aims to provide a domestic alternative, keeping patients and revenue within the country.
The project is a significant step towards expanding access to quality healthcare in Kenya. With Apollo’s expertise and Balmer’s local knowledge, the hospital is poised to become a leading medical facility in the region, providing specialized care and treatment options to patients.
