Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has presented a landmark ₦1.368 trillion appropriation bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kano State House of Assembly. Branded the Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development, this proposal marks the largest in the state’s history, underlining the administration’s commitment to long-term socioeconomic transformation.
A striking 68 percent of the budget, ₦934.64 billion, is allocated to capital expenditure, while the remaining 32 percent (₦433.48 billion) is set aside for recurrent costs, reflecting a strong bias toward growth-driving investments.
In sectoral terms, education receives the highest share at ₦405.35 billion (about 30%). Infrastructure is allocated ₦346.28 billion (25%), while health gets ₦212.25 billion (16%). Other critical areas, such as agriculture, security, commerce, water resources, women and youth development, environment, tourism, and transport, also feature prominently in the plan.
Governor Yusuf described the budget as a bold but realistic roadmap and a covenant with the people, intended to complete legacy projects, nurture human capital, and deepen systems for long-term development. He further disclosed that over 80% of his administration’s development blueprint has already been implemented, and the 2026 plan is meant to intensify delivery.
The governor also emphasized urban renewal, mass housing delivery, and strengthening small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly in the Kano Economic City around the AKK Gas Pipeline corridor.
He called on the Assembly to approve the budget promptly, appealing for partnership and oversight to ensure the proposal isn’t just a document on paper but translates into real projects, jobs, and services.
This record ₦1.368 trillion budget signals Kano’s growing fiscal strength, powered by improved internally generated revenue and tighter financial management. Its capital-intensive design could stimulate economic growth while laying the foundation for urban renewal, job creation, and human capital development.
