Ibom Air has officially started operating its domestic flights from the newly commissioned International Terminal at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The move marks an important step in the airline’s growth plans and highlights ongoing efforts to improve aviation infrastructure in the state.
The transition became effective on June 14, 2026, and is expected to enhance passenger experience through improved facilities, faster processing, and more efficient airport operations. By relocating its domestic services to the new terminal, Ibom Air aims to provide travelers with a higher standard of comfort and convenience.
According to the airline, the modern terminal has been designed to handle a larger number of passengers while offering upgraded services. The facility features improved check-in and boarding systems, stronger security infrastructure, and better passenger management processes. These improvements are expected to reduce delays and make travel smoother for customers.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air described the relocation as a major milestone for both the airline and the aviation sector in Akwa Ibom State. He noted that the commencement of domestic operations from the new terminal reflects the airline’s commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and world-class travel services.
The CEO emphasized that the move is not only about improving airport operations but also about creating a better experience for passengers. He stated that the new terminal provides a modern environment that aligns with international standards and supports the airline’s long-term vision of continuous service improvement.
Beyond passenger convenience, the development is expected to contribute to the economic growth of Akwa Ibom State. Improved airport infrastructure can attract more business travelers, investors, and tourists to the region. Aviation experts believe that modern facilities play a crucial role in boosting connectivity and supporting local economic activities.
The airline also highlighted that the relocation supports the state government’s broader objective of strengthening transportation infrastructure and positioning Akwa Ibom as an emerging aviation hub in Nigeria. With enhanced facilities and increased operational capacity, the airport is expected to play a greater role in connecting the state to key destinations across the country.
Industry observers say the upgrade could improve the airport’s competitiveness and create opportunities for future expansion in both domestic and regional air travel. Better infrastructure often encourages increased passenger traffic and supports wider economic development initiatives.
To ensure a smooth transition, Ibom Air has advised passengers to arrive at the airport early before their scheduled departures. Travelers are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with the layout of the new terminal to avoid confusion and complete travel procedures without delays.
The commencement of domestic operations from the new International Terminal represents another significant achievement for Ibom Air and underscores the growing importance of modern aviation infrastructure in supporting economic growth, tourism, and regional connectivity in Nigeria.
