GIG Mobility Nigeria has announced a major transformation of its business model, shifting from a traditional transport service into a broad mobility ecosystem. The company unveiled a new integrated platform aimed at improving travel experiences and offering customers a wider range of services in one place.

The Chief Executive Officer, Dr Enahoro Okhae, revealed this development during the company’s 2026 GIGM Product Conference held in Lagos. At the event, the firm introduced a unified digital platform that brings together various mobility and travel services. Okhae explained that the transition reflects a strategic response to changing customer expectations, especially the growing demand for smoother and more comprehensive travel solutions.

“We are no longer just a company that moves people from Lagos to Benin. We are now a global mobility organisation.

“What we have built is an ecosystem where everything around travel sits on one platform – bus transport, airline tickets, vehicle hire, tours, and soon hotels and insurance,” he said.

He noted that the platform simplifies travel planning by allowing users to access multiple services without switching between different providers. This, he said, removes the fragmentation that has long affected the transport and travel industry.

According to him, the company’s evolution was driven largely by feedback from customers who wanted services beyond intercity transportation.

“It became difficult to keep telling people we are just a bus company. The demand was clear people wanted more, and we had to evolve,” he said.

As part of the rollout, the company introduced “HireX”, a vehicle hire marketplace designed to give users easy access to premium cars when needed.

“You don’t need to own a luxury car to use one. You can hire for a few hours, depending on your needs. It’s about access, flexibility and service,” he said.

Another feature of the platform, “PASS by GIGM”, integrates services such as flight bookings, visa assistance, and curated travel packages into a single system. This move positions the company more firmly within the wider tourism and travel ecosystem.

Okhae added that the company has now achieved its long-standing goal of creating a connected mobility system that links people not only to destinations but also to experiences.

“We have moved from selling transportation to selling experiences,” he said.

Looking ahead, the CEO disclosed that the company is working towards introducing electric vehicles for passenger transport. The plan builds on insights gathered from pilot projects carried out by its logistics division and will include developing charging infrastructure across the country.

“It is a big project. We are already engaging financial institutions and building a plan that spans across Nigeria,” he said.

He also revealed ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships within the tourism sector, including supporting travel and tourism activities in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Okhae emphasized that technology remains at the core of the company’s growth and operations.

“At GIGM, we do nothing without technology. It is the foundation of everything we do and what keeps us ahead,” he said.

He further announced that the GIG Mobility Product Conference will now become an annual event, serving as a platform to showcase new ideas and innovations in the mobility space.

Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, represented by Dr Quadri Adebowale, highlighted the critical role of integrated mobility in boosting tourism and economic activities.

“Mobility is not just about moving from one point to another. It connects people to experiences, business, culture, nightlife, food, fashion and enterprise,” she said.

She warned that inefficient and disconnected transport systems could negatively affect tourism and overall productivity.

“When movement becomes stressful or unpredictable, cities lose momentum especially in tourism,” she said.

Benson-Awoyinka added that the state government is encouraging collaboration through initiatives like the Ethno Mobility framework to ensure inclusive and efficient transport systems.

“The future of mobility is integrated, and it requires collaboration between government, private sector and communities,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that this conference is the first edition of the GIG Mobility Product Conference, which will now be held annually to highlight innovations shaping the future of mobility.
